North Gulf Beaches
There are no public beaches here that can command the kudos that the southern Pinellas Beaches warrant. But they are quaint beachfront towns with their own charms and noteworthy dining hot-spots! Let’s journey together north up Gulf Boulevard from Madeira Beach. You can but blink and pass through one of many quaint beachfront towns: each with its own highlights – all blessed with a beachfront that boasts the sugary sand and warm Gulf water that are the true treasures of this part of the world. First up is Redington Beach. Blink. You are now in North Redington Beach. Blink. Redington Shores. Blink. Indian Shores. Blink. Indian Rocks Beach. Blink. Bellair Beach. Then Whoa! No more blinking! You have hit Sand Key. Next up is Clearwater Beach!
Back up! Let’s start at the beginning of our journey. Here are some highlights:
here are a number of great local restaurants. Breakfast or lunch at Sweet Sage Café or The Frog Pond. For a walk back in time, choose Kenny’s Corner, a no-frills Mom and Pop diner. The Conch Republic is a local staple with a large menu and bar, including a fun outdoors section. Seafood aficionados will swoon at the quality of the fare at Wahoo’s Waterside Pub and Patio. Kings of Karaoke won’t want to miss the lineup at The Friendly Tavern.
Fisherman or those wanting a stroll, will enjoy the Redington Long Pier. It is stretches out to a coral reef, so the fishing is always good! You can rent poles there at the bait shop; or, elect to charter a boat for some offshore fishing.
Indian Shores & Indian Rocks:
Salt Rock Grill is a MUST visit, whether you visit by boat or land. The seafood is fresh and the atmosphere is conducive to a night well-worth remembering. Eat dockside or inside, both are equally wonderful. Reservations must be made in advance, unless you are very fortunate. If you can just walk in and get seated, rush out and buy a lottery ticket; because, it is definitely your lucky day!
A boaters’ favorite and much more casual venue is The Pub. You will get a seat here without a reservation and find the prices easier on your wallet. Check out their Sunday buffet.
Aqua Prime, Café de Paris Bakery and Keegan’s Seafood Grille are also noteworthy destinations.
