Downtown St. Petersburg
St. PetersburgDowntown St. Petersburg has experienced a renaissance that other city centers are studying, in hopes of achieving the same result. The idyllic setting along the waterfront provides a perfect backdrop for the beautiful high-rise condominiums that grace Beach Drive – which is across the street from the water, leaving the wide open expanse of waterfront to be fully appreciated. On Beach Drive, one can enjoy the “Riveria-esque” cafes and stellar restaurants. There are too many great places to wine and dine to mention them all! Do make sure, however, to enjoy at least a drink atop The Birchwood Hotel, where you will be treated with an outstanding viewpoint for appreciating beautiful downtown St. Petersburg!
There are four museums downtown, including the Museum of Fine Arts, The History Museum, The Dali and the Holocaust Museum. The Dali, a purpose-built building that is in itself remarkable, is the largest installation of Dali art outside of Spain. St. Petersburg also hosts the only permanent Dale Chilhuly exhibit!
If Major League Baseball is your passion, catch a Tampa Bay Rays’ game at Tropicana Field! If you are a soccer fan, the Tampa Bay Rowdies play at Al Lang Field, which is also home during the fall months to the truly enjoyable Saturday Morning Market. Shopping is a great pleasure in the city center. In addition to the Saturday Morning Market, another personal favorite is Sundial, where you can shop until you drop – into a chair at one of the many fabulous restaurants also there, including Sea Salt and Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Another restaurant and grocery store extraordinaire is the Locale Market at Sundial. It is a grocery store cum restaurant that provides a surprising and delightful experience with exotic selections that pander to the palate!
The large parkland areas at the downtown waterfront often play home to event, such as the Mainsail Art Show, Ribfest and various other food, wine and musical extravaganzas. Check out the Events Section for more information!
